Legal
Draft. The full data protection is being finalised with our legal advisers and will be published here. The points below describe how we work today.
YATA handles members' personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA).
We ask for your consent on WhatsApp before collecting your BVN, NIN and bank details, and explain what they are used for.
Your data is stored in access-controlled systems. Only named administrators can view identity and bank information, and access is limited to what each role needs.
We keep your information for as long as you are a member and for any period required by law or to settle outstanding obligations. The exact retention periods will be set out in the final policy.
Under the NDPA you can ask to access your data, correct it, have it deleted, object to or restrict its use, and withdraw consent. You can also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).
In line with FCCPC digital lending rules, we never contact your phone contacts about repayments and never shame members publicly.
